All students, faculty, and staff at the JI are welcome to use our services.
Not at all! We’re here to help at any stage, whether you’re starting with a prompt or polishing a final draft.
You can book appointments through our online scheduling system on our website. If you have trouble, feel free to contact us directly.
Bring your assignment prompt, any notes or drafts you have, and specific questions or concerns you want to address.

WANT TO JOIN US?

Faculty or Consultant Referral
Start your journey by securing a referral from a current faculty member or an experienced writing consultant. This endorsement affirms your writing skills and your potential as a tutor.
Submit an Application
Complete the application form available on our website. Include your academic and professional background, and outline your reasons for wanting to join the team.
Work Sample
Attach a sample of your writing with your application. This should be a piece that demonstrates your ability to argue effectively, research thoroughly, and express ideas clearly.
Interview
If your application and writing sample meet our standards, you will be invited for an interview. This is your opportunity to show your interpersonal skills, your approach to tutoring, and your understanding of writing processes.
Training Session
Selected candidates must attend and successfully complete a training session. This preparation ensures that all consultants maintain the high standards of support that the Writing Center is known for.
